From the Desk of the Secretary
I was born on 4th June 1959 (Thursday) at Jaynagar, West Bengal, India. My name is Sri Suraj Chandra Bairagi. My father was the late Sudhanya Chandra Bairagi, and my mother was the late Radharani Bairagi. We are six brothers and sisters in the family.
I completed my Higher Secondary education at Jaynagar Institution. In 1981, with the blessings of Swami Swadananda Maharaj, I joined Nimpith Ramakrishna Mission as a volunteer to serve the poor and needy. On 20th February 1982, I received "Diksha" (spiritual initiation) from Belur Math, Howrah. Later, I moved to Bagbazar Ramakrishna Sarada Math, where I stayed for two years. After that, I joined Chandipur Ashram in Medinipur and spent one and a half years there. I then proceeded to Hrishikesh Sivalaya Mandir.
In 1986, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, I received "Sannyas" (monastic vows) at Haridwar Ghat. My name was then changed from Suraj Bairagi to Swami Sarbananda. Afterward, I returned to my homeland, where Birajda generously donated land for the establishment of "Ghosherchak Ramakrishna Ashram."
Since then, I have been engaged in various noble social activities, including providing free education to children, offering free homeopathic treatment, and distributing garments and other essentials to the underprivileged. We also celebrate the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Swami Vivekananda, and Holy Mother Sarada Devi, along with festivals such as Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
I sincerely hope and pray that the next generations will receive the blessings of the Almighty and continue these noble works, passing the spirit of service and devotion to the generations to come.
Thank you,
Swami Sarbananda,
Secretary
